Reservation Files, 1882–1916

1882-1916

This series consists of correspondence, maps, plats, blueprints, orders, and other papers relating to the establishment, construction, maintenance, and abandonment of military posts and reservations. Included are clerks' notes giving references to other records where additional information may be found. For a few of the older posts, these notes are all that appear in the file. In addition, there are copies of Presidential orders relating to military reservations and memoranda relating to abandoned posts. This series was maintained by the Military Reservation Division until 1890 when that office was abolished, and thereafter by the Adjutant General's Office.
